Child First is a trauma-informed, two-generation early intervention program that pairs mental health therapy with intensive care coordination for families with young children. Since its launch by Trillium in 2017, Child First has supported children from prenatal stages through age five alongside their caregivers-addressing the root causes of emotional and developmental challenges through home-based support.

In 2025, Trillium received a $1 million expansion grant from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS} to scale the model to 22 new counties. The expansion underscores the program's success in improving long-term outcomes through early relational health, prevention of out-of-home placements, and reduced emergency service utilization.
