BURGAW, NC: After months of planning, renovation and collaboration, Henry's House is ready to serve youths and caregivers across North Carolina. Easterseals PORT Health (ESPH) held a special Open House Celebration today in collaboration with Trillium Health Resources. As part of National Caregivers Month, this is especially meaningful to honor the people who provide compassionate care to their loved ones.
Henry's House provides respite care for children ages 6 to 21 with developmental disabilities and other complex needs. While primary caregivers have an opportunity to rest and recharge, participants will enjoy fun activities tailored to their interests and abilities. Henry’s House features six single occupancy bedrooms and pending availability, participants can also bring their siblings. Henry’s House is currently accepting applications to schedule up to six consecutive days of therapeutic respite services.
"Henry's House was designed to meet a critical need for caregivers who provide around-the-clock care for children,” said Liz Hill, Senior Vice President of Easterseals PORT Health’s Home & Community Based Services. "We’re excited for the community to see this beautiful home and learn how it will support youths with complex needs while creating opportunities for meaningful respite for caregivers."
Henry’s House was generously funded by a $2 million gift from Trillium. "We believe every caregiver deserves support and every child deserves a place where they feel welcomed and understood,” said Cindy Ehlers, Chief Strategy and Innovations Officer for Trillium. “Henry's House will provide peace of mind for caregivers and engaging experiences for youths."
The name Henry's House is a tribute to Henry and his family, whose journey inspired a vision for expanded respite services for young people with disabilities and complex needs. Henry House serves as a reminder that a full-circle of caring also means supporting the dedicated caregivers who provide for and walk alongside them each and every day.
Visitors attending the Open House Celebration had the opportunity to tour the home, learn about respite services, meet the care team, and see firsthand how the home is lovingly designed to support youths with complex needs.
