Trillium providing Funds for Henry’s House
Trillium providing $2M to Easterseals PORT Health for Henry’s House
Facility will provide a safe, supportive respite haven for children with Developmental Disabilities, Autism, and TBI
BURGAW, N.C. – Families across North Carolina will soon have a new source of hope and relief: Henry’s House will be a dedicated respite care program for children ages 8 to 18 with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD), Autism, and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Trillium Health Resources awarded Easterseals PORT Health $2,000,000 to renovate an existing facility to create Henry’s House for the well-being of children and families.
Henry’s House is designed with both children and caregivers in mind—providing a nurturing, sensory-friendly environment where youth can safely stay for short-term respite while families rest, recharge, and maintain their own wellbeing.
“Henry’s House will offer enriching experiences for children and also provide much-needed respite for parents,” says Liz Hill, Senior Vice President of Easterseals PORT Health’s Home & Community Based Services. “This gives tireless, devoted parents much-needed time to rest, recharge and tend to other responsibilities, knowing their child is in compassionate and capable hands.”
Henry’s House will be equipped with:
- Comfortable overnight accommodation for short-term stays
- Structured activities and individualized support plans
- Trained staff experienced in supporting children with complex needs
- A trauma-informed, sensory-aware environment
- A focus on fun, friendships, and flexibility
“Caregiving is a full-time commitment, and respite is not a luxury—it’s a lifeline,” said Cindy Ehlers, Chief of Strategy and Innovation at Trillium. “Henry’s House gives families the peace of mind that their child is safe, understood, and engaged while they take a much-needed break.”
Trillium will host a check presentation at the date and location below. Media are invited to attend.

The name Henry’s House honors Henry and his family. Henry is a young boy whose resilience inspired better support for exceptional children with complex needs, reminding us that every child deserves rest, connection, and care tailored to who they are, and families need a chance to recharge to maintain their caregiving responsibilities.
Henry’s House is more than a program—it’s a statement of what’s possible when we invest in inclusive, whole-family support.
