Trillium providing Funds for Technology-Empowered Apartment Living
Trillium providing $3M for Technology-Empowered Apartment Living in
partnership with Easterseals PORT Health
Development in Greensboro/Guilford County will assist those with Autism, I/DD, and TBI to live independently
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Trillium Health Resources is providing $3,000,000 to Easterseals PORT Health to help develop independent living apartments at Francis’ Cove. The apartments will include smart technology features for convenience, comfort, and security. Smart technology is rapidly transforming how we live, and its integration into apartments offers significant benefits for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (I/DD), and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
The land for Francis’ Cove was donated to Easterseals PORT Health by the late Monty Recoulley, in memory of his brother Francis, to assure people with intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to live independently.
“We are grateful to Trillium for partnering with us to make Monty’s big dream for Francis’ Cove Apartments a reality. Monty believed his late brother Francis (Butch) could have thrived in a supportive, independent environment - if only that had been an option during his lifetime. Francis’ Cove independent SMART apartments will provide a safe, nurturing environment, and Easterseals PORT services will help each resident thrive at home and in the community,” commented Luanne Welch, CEO of Easterseals PORT Health.
Planned impact of Francis’ Cove will be:
- Trillium Ultimate Living Assistant (TULA): Enabling devices equipped with technology personalized to each individual that include features like routine reminders, video modeling to complete tasks, video calls, and telehealth and health related monitoring devices.
- Smart Home Automation: Smart thermostats and lighting that can be controlled remotely through smart phones, and door locks programmed for entry via keypads or smartphones.
- Security Features: Doorbell cameras, monitored security systems on door and windows, and property-wide messaging capability using TULA.
“Smart Home Technology is a convenience many people enjoy. For those with I/DD or autism, this technology has the added bonus of giving them the tools for living independently,” shared Cindy Ehlers, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer. “While convenience is nice, the confidence and skill-building this autonomy provides is priceless.”
Trillium will host a check presentation at the date and location below. Media are invited to attend.
