Peacehaven and Trillium Partner to Address Caregiver Challenges and Build Inclusive Community

WHITSETT, N.C. – Peacehaven and Trillium Health Resources today announced a new strategic partnership aimed at addressing one of the most urgent and overlooked needs facing North Carolina families: the growing strain on caregivers of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and the increasing isolation experienced by the individuals they support.

Launched in recognition of National Family Caregivers Month, this collaboration shines a light on the dual challenge families face — caregivers who desperately need time to rest and recharge, and adults with I/DD who thrive when deeply connected to community. Together, Peacehaven and Trillium are developing a long-term strategy to strengthen both sides of this equation through integrated, inclusive approaches that build belonging, reduce isolation, and create sustainable pathways for well-being.“

Together we are reimagining what it means to support caregivers — to give families the tools, time, and trusted community they need to sustain care and help their adult loved ones thrive," said Hayley Sink, Senior Vice President of Community Health and Innovation of Trillium Health Resources. "This partnership allows us to bring our organizations’ strengths together to resolve both realities with intention and compassion.”

Peacehaven, known for its inclusive 89-acre campus where people of all abilities live, learn, work, and play together, has long been committed to solving for isolation by building community. Trillium’s collaboration reflects a shared belief that innovative models of support and bold partnerships are needed to meet the growing demand for caregiver respite and community-based engagement opportunities.

“Our work begins with a simple truth: everyone needs belonging,” said Phelps Sprinkle, Chief Executive Officer of Peacehaven. “Caregivers need space to rest, and adults with I/DD need spaces to grow, participate, and thrive. This partnership with Trillium allows us to explore new, integrated approaches that honor both.”

Over the coming months, Peacehaven and Trillium will convene families, self-advocates, care professionals, and community partners to further shape initiatives that support caregiver wellbeing and expand inclusive opportunities for adults with I/DD. This joint effort reflects a shared commitment to building systems of care that are proactive, not reactive, and that recognize the interconnected needs of the entire family.

“This is about what is possible when we come together to create support systems with family-centered, community-based care at the foundation," Sink added. "We are proud to partner with Peacehaven to transform lives and build community."
